Our
Home
We
are located in the beautiful and remote eastern part of California.
Our office is in the small city of Bishop (population 6,000)
which sits deep in the high desert climate of the Owens Valley
at over
4,000 feet (1,300 meters) above sea level. To our west are the
majestic Sierra Nevada, rising to over 14,000 feet (4,500 meters),
and is lush with trees, alpine lakes, tall granite crags and
small glaciers.
We are merely an hour and fifteen
minute drive from Yosemite
National Park, as well as within hiking distance of Sequoia
and Kings Canyon National Parks, Inyo National Forest, and other
world renowned mountain treasures. To the east of us rise the
White Mountains,
also over 14,000 feet (4,500 meters), the first range in the
tremendous mountain and desert region of the Great Basin. In
only an hour’s
drive one can cross the boundary of Death Valley National Park,
the largest National Park in the lower 48 states.
This region to
our east contains countless square miles of remote desert
canyons, sand dunes, high forested mountains, and lonely dirt
roads. To
top all of this off, we are only minutes from no less than
three internationally renowned rock climbing and bouldering areas,
dozens
of natural hot springs and volcanic landscapes, world class
trout fishing, and one of the world’s great ski resorts – Mammoth
Mountain. Bishop is in Inyo County, which is approximately the
size of the state of New Hampshire, but contains a population
of 18,000 people. The nearest city of larger size and convenience
is over two and a half hours away. People come from all over
the
world to play and relax in our outdoor wonderland.
At
this time, our facilities amount to an office and gear storage.
Our staff have rented or purchased their own housing, and we
have housed students in various situations, including campgrounds,
at
churches, and up the road in cabins at Cardinal Village Resort
(YWAM – Bishop’s old stomping grounds). We thank
the many citizens of the Bishop and Mammoth area that have helped
with
our needs.
This
has been sufficient for the past few years as most of our programs
take place in the wilderness. However, we have a need
and vision to acquire and develop our own property where we can
house staff and students, offices and storage, conferences and
seminars, and for a jump off point for numerous outdoor programs
and adventures. Soon we will add to this page a more complete description
of this vision. If you would like to contribute financial or other
resources to this project, please go to our Supporter’s Page.
Please pray for the realization of this dream.
