Adventure Ministry Training (AMT) Certificate

Adventure Ministry Training (AMT) takes our WDTS and SOAR and puts them back-to-back, making a year-long, comprehensive, wilderness ministry and technical guide training experience.

Are you interested in wilderness guiding as a ministry? Then this certificate may be what you’ve been looking for! This year of training takes six months of intense spiritual development and outreach, and six months of professional, competitive, and technical guide training and equips you with the many necessary skills needed for wilderness ministry.

The AMT Certificate begins in late August with the ‘lecture phase’ of our Wilderness Discipleship Training School (WDTS). Here you will spend three months in a wilderness setting receiving spiritual and personal growth teaching that helps strengthen your relationship with God, develop Godly relationships with others, and is excellent preparation for missions. After lecture phase, you begin the two months of ‘outreach phase,’ an opportunity to apply what you’ve been taught during lecture phase. During this time, you travel to an urban wilderness where you and your DTS team reach out to a poor community in the mountains of Central Asia. After arriving back in the US (and graduating from the DTS), you will have a two-week break to prepare for our School of Outdoor Adventure Recreation (SOAR).

The lecture phase of SOAR, March through June, stresses leadership, technical and relational skills, risk management, and experiential education. The final two months are spent as an intern with Sea and Summit Expeditions guiding trips with local youth groups, youth-at-risk, and a wide and diverse range of other groups. When you finish the training in August, you will receive your AMT Certificate. It is important to note that the AMT Certificate is of equal value as the SOAR Certificate. However, AMT provides you with the benefit and additional experience of the Wilderness DTS, which in turn can provide extra insight into ministry in the wilderness.
